The purpose of the icons and depictions in the mosaics is to tie our remembrance of them to our rich history.
Religious mosaics are deemed to be iconographic in nature even though the techniques and materials used by the artist differ from the painted icon. Nevertheless, religious mosaics maintain the connection between that which appears physical but in truth always connects to that which is spiritual or that which is motivated by the Holy Spirit.
Over the entrances is an icon of Christ as the Head of the Church, and an icon of Saint Sava, our parish Patron Saint. Above the south door of the church, in the atrium, is the icon of Saint Simeon, Saint Sava’s father. In the atrium, over the north door, is Saint Lazar, the sainted hero of Kosovo.
